Reintroducing new air cargo solutions to maximise capacity
Client Challenge
Air Namibia had no flights into the UK for the past 18 months and has recommenced services from Gatwick Airport. All previous flights had been operated from Heathrow. Air cargo market between UK & Namibia was under 200 tonnes per year. Air Namibia decided to operate three flights per week with MD11 passenger aircraft, each flight having a cargo capacity of 18-20 tonnes. Select worked with Air Namibia to re-introduce their air cargo solutions to the UK market to generate profitable cargo capacities and revenues.
Select Solution
- Established reception at Heathrow and trucking service to Gatwick in order to satisfy market requirement for Heathrow delivery.
- Provision of UK wide reception and delivery facility at regional airports to increase their catchment area.
- Established cargo handling and reception at Gatwick Airport.
- Attained and serviced a number of mail contracts, including Royal Mail.
- Introduced a road feeder service from Windhoek to all major South African cities enabling quick overnight transfers to the largest market in Africa – Johannesburg.
- Introduced a road feeder service to Gaborone, Botswana to broaden the scope of destinations currently available to UK customers.
- Integrated service offering from Select Airline Management offices in Asia and Middle East to generate additional air cargo revenues for Southern African destinations.
- During a four week period prior to their first flight, Select ran a full sales & marketing programme for the UK. An integrated programme including, email, fax and direct mail fulfilled by face to face meetings across the country to highly targeted customers.
